KUhLToUR Cows in Art, Culture and Society in the East and the West

On the occasion of its ten-year anniversary, the Ernst Hohl Cultural Foundation dedicates its exhibition at Haus Appenzell in the centre of Zurich to the cow in art and society. Yu Hao, Chinese curator and Swiss resident since 2006, looks at this subject from a personal perspective. She explores the role and history of the cow in China, India, and Switzerland and unearths both artistic as well as social similarities and differences. "KUhLToUR" shows works by well-known artists from the 19th and 20th century (Ulrich Bleiker, Johann Jakob Hauswirth, Anna Barbara Giezendanner and Hans Krüsi) as well as by contemporary eastern and western artist. A unique glimpse at current artistic work is presented by a large number of cow models designed especially for the exhibition by art students and artists from China (China Academy of Arts, Hangzhou, Academy of Art & Design Tsing Hua University, Beijing) and Switzerland.
