Event: Feb. 27, 2025
"Use it or lose it" – this is especially true for our brain. New connections are constantly being made between the approximately 86 billion nerve cells in it. But only those that are actively used remain. This forms the basis of learning: engaging with the environment in everyday problem solving – and this is possible throughout our lives. The lecture reports on the latest findings from research into neuroplasticity, i.e. the adaptation of brain structures and functions to the changing demands of the environment, and explains the principles of learning in everyday practice.
Lecture by Prof. Dr. med. Jürg Kesselring, former head physician for neurology and rehabilitation at the Valens Rehab Centre, titular professor for clinical neurology and neurorehabilitation at the University of Bern, President of the Swiss Brain League.
