We celebrated the preview screening on October 10, 2026 at KINOKONI in St. Gallen.

WHAT IF THE MOST “SWISS” THING ABOUT SWITZERLAND IS THAT SUBTLE FEELING OF NOT QUITE BELONGING?

What holds Switzerland together if there’s no such thing as “typical”? ANDERS ANDERS - what unites us;  explores what it means to be human in our society. It’s about origin, language, and belonging, about what connects us and what excludes us.

Following her success with “Plötzlich Heimweh,” director Hao Hohl accompanies people who navigate the space between dialects, cultures, and traditions. Some have lost their homeland; others carry a heavy family legacy; still others feel like strangers in their own country. The result is a moving and multifaceted portrait of Switzerland, one that explores alienation, familiarity, and the question of what it takes for us to feel a sense of belonging.

Cattle Show in the Appenzell Region
A Living Tradition

After the cattle return from the alpine pastures, life in the Appenzell region is far from quiet: now the cows take centre stage. At the autumn cattle shows, farming families proudly present their animals. The new immersive exhibition at Haus Appenzell, opening in january 2027

In January 2027, Haus Appenzell will reopen its doors. The immersive exhibition “Magical Hour” creates an atmospheric world of experience that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history, culture, and traditions of the Appenzell region. A father sets out with his children to search for their missing grandfather. Their journey takes them through several themed rooms, where memories, secrets, and surprising encounters gradually unfold

Arts and craft combined

With Haus Appenzell, the Ernst Hohl Cultural Foundation Appenzell has created a prestigious "culture showcase" for the Appenzell region and Toggenburg in the heart of Zurich since 2006. Our aim is to bring the traditional and contemporary arts, crafts, and way of life as cultivated and lived in the region around the Alpstein to urban Zurich, to the Swiss public in general, and to other countries. Housed in a beautiful neo-Renaissance building, we show the rich culture and manifold traditions of the region, combine them with foreign cultures, and promote them nationally and internationally.
